October 25 and November 1 - Moon, M45, M31 and Comet Holmes!!!

These are some of my latest photos! As most astronomy buffs know, comet Holmes has mushroomed into this huge rare comet that is visible to the unaided eye. Here are my attempts at photographing the comet plus some other objects.

Same as above picture

Same settings as above pictures.
Photo taken with a Celestron 80mm telescope and a Canon G3 digital camera. 165 second exposure @ ISO400 (11 X 15 sec)

M45 (The Seven Sisters, The Pliedes) taken with a Celestron 80mm telescope and a Canon Digital Rebel XT DSLR camera. 180 second exposure @ ISO1600 (6 X 30 sec)

M31 and M110. Not a great shot by all means! 90 second exposure @ ISO1600 (3 X 30 sec)
Same as above but adjusted the contrast to show hints of the arms of the galaxy. Perhaps a 1 minute exposure will be enough to get those arms with more contrast.

October 25 2007 - A few moon shots taken with my 80mm Celestron telescope and Canon Digital Rebel XT DSLR camera. Click on images to see lager versions!

Gtreat shots Nico! The moon images are impressive. Which Orion 80mm do you have? I had an ST80 for awhile, it was a good scope for the price. I now use a Celestron C102. It has 4 inch aperture, 50mm focal length at f/5. $200. You can see a website full of images made with it at http://www.cheapskate-astro.net

Hi Allen, thanks for the very nice comments! Those images in the website you provided me are awesome!!!! its amazing what you can do withought spending thousands of dollars on expensive equipment! The scope I use mainly is the 5" MCT starmax. It is a great scope for the price! I currently also use (and these pictures were taken with it) a Celestron firstcope 80mm. I bought this scope like 6 or 7 years or more ago for a very cheap price and I have used it for countless of hours and works great! How do you like your C102?? I was considering getting that one instead of the 5" MCT but found a good deal on the 5". Anyway thanks so much for the comments!

Nico
